Alle Dörfer bleiben
Die Dörfer am Braunkohletagebau bei Garzweiler in Nordrhein-Westfalen sind von Zwangsumsiedlung und Zerstörung bedroht. In Lützerath, einem kleinen Dorf direkt neben dem Tagebau, leben nur noch wenige Menschen. Zu ihnen gehört der Landwirt Eckardt Heukamp, der Aktivist*innen, die sich für den Erhalt der Dörfer einsetzen, Wohnraum zur Verfügung stellt. Die Abrissarbeiten im Dorf werden regelmäßig durch Aktionen der Aktivist*innen gestört. Die Polizei ist mit einem überregionalen Großaufgebot und Spezialeinheiten im Einsatz, um Störungen zu verhindern. Immer wieder kommt es zu Konfrontationen zwischen der Protestbewegung und der Polizei.
Das Projekt wurde in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Fotografen Roman Bracht umgesetzt. Wir haben mehrere Tage vor Ort fotografiert, um die Aktivisten und ihre Motivation kennen zu lernen und einen Eindruck von den Ereignissen zu bekommen. Zu den Porträts der Aktivisten wurden Interviews geführt.

The villages at the open pit lignite mine near Garzweiler in North Rhine-Westphalia are threatened with forced resettlement and destruction. In Lützerath, a small village directly next to the open pit mine, only a few people still live. Among them is the farmer Eckardt Heukamp, who provides housing for activists who campaign for the preservation of the villages. The demolition work in the village is regularly disturbed by actions of the activists. The police are deployed with a large supra-regional contingent and special units to prevent disturbances. Again and again there are confrontations between the protest movement and the police.
The project was developed in cooperation with the photographer Roman Bracht. We photographed several days on site to get to know the activists and their motivation and to get an impression of the events. Interviews were conducted to accompany the portraits of the activists.
